Taking Tips -Help
and strategies for all students. Studying is only a part of getting
good results on your exam. No matter how hard you study as a student if
you don't know how to go about taking a test, whether multiple choice
or essay, you won't score the highest possible mark.

CALIFORNIA
HIGH
SCHOOL
EXIT
EXAM (CAHSEE)
The
state of California
requires all high
school students to pass the California
high school Exit
Exam. This test consists of two parts: English Language, which contains
multiple choice questions on language usage and reading plus an essay,
and
Math, which covers math concepts and skills learned through Algebra 1.
Every
student receives at least 6 opportunities to pass the test. As a 10th
grader, your student will take the in February, 2012. 11th
grade
students who did not pass one or both parts as a 10th
grader will
have two opportunities, once in the fall (November) and once in the
spring
(March). Seniors still needing to pass may take the test every time we
offer
the test until they pass.
Mattole
Valley
charter School’s
policy regarding students who meet all course requirements for
graduation but
who have not passed both sections of the CAHSEE will be provided three
options:
1.
A
Certificate of Completion
Mattole
Valley
Charter
School
will issue a
Certificate of Completion to a student who has met the school’s
requirements
for graduation, but is unable to pass both portions of the CAHSEE.
Please Note:
A student must attempt the CAHSEE at least three times, one of those
times
being in the student’s senior year. Please be aware that the military
and some
employers will not accept this certificate in lieu of a diploma.
2.
Continued
enrollment with additional testing
opportunities:
Students
who have not passed both sections
of the CAHSEE but are interested in pursuing a diploma may remain
enrolled for
a period of one additional year beyond the regular senior year, and be
pursuing
a course of study designed to him/her pass the CAHSEE. The student
would then
be able to participate in 5 additional administrations during the
course of
that additional year of enrollment.
3.
Dis-enrollment
and one additional testing opportunity:
Students
who have met Mattole Valley Charter
School’s course requirements for graduation but have not passed both
portions
of the CAHSEE and who do not wish to remain enrolled in MVCS or any
public
school for any additional time period may return to MVCS in the
semester
immediately following receipt of the Certification of Completion to
attempt to pass
the exit exam. Students in this situation will be allowed one attempt
to pass
both sections of the exam. If the student is successful, a MVCS diploma
will
then be awarded to him/her at that time.
