Program Overview

The Guidance Department will provide assistance, information, and guidance regarding all academic plans for all secondary students, grades 7th-12th.

We welcome parental and guardianship involvement, our unique design operates best when the core curriculum is designed to meet the academic needs, personal interests and long-term plans of our individual students.

It is an academic goal and promise of Mattole Valley Charter School to ensure that Students will explore and nurture their own special interests, talents, and abilities.  We encourage parents/guardians to call and schedule meetings regarding their student’s academic progress.

The Goals of the Guidance Program:

  1. To support all students in achieving academic proficiency.
  2. To provide guidance for each student in preparing for their post-secondary lives.
The Basics of the Guidance Program:
  1. Academic Counseling.
  2. Establishing and implementing, with parental/guardian involvement, student’s long-range educational plans.
  3. Optimizing progress towards achievement of proficiency standards.
  4. Completion of required curriculum in accordance with the student’s abilities, interests, and aptitudes.
  5. Academic planning for access and success in higher education, including guidance on courses needed for admission to post-secondary colleges, standardized tests, and financial aid.
  6. Career and vocation counseling in which students are assisted in doing all of the following:  Planning for the future, becoming aware of their career potential, developing realistic perceptions of work, and personal and social counseling in interpersonal relationships for the purpose of promoting the development of their academic abilities, careers and vocations, personalities, and social skills.
