Bio:
Lance Blodgett attended high school in Anaheim California. Shortly after earning his diploma in 1970, he moved to Sonoma County. He attended classes at Santa Rosa Junior College, where he received an Associate of Science degree. It was while attending SRJC that Lance took a part-time job with the local YMCA. During his time working at the "Y", he gained an appreciation of the intrinsic rewards that come with helping children develop their potential. It was then that Lance decided to pursue a career as a teacher.
At HSU Lance earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Technology before being accepted into the Teacher Credential Program. He served his student teaching internship at Winship Junior High under the mentorship of Virgil Buhler.
Since acquiring his teaching credential, Lance has taught various subjects at several schools. He has taught: science, PE and metal shop at Norco Jr. High, machine shop, wood shop and health at Eureka High, science, math, PE, photography, driver's ed and wood shop at Leggett High & Jr. High, algebra at Mattole Triple Junction High. For the past eight years, Lance has been an Educational Specialist with Mattole Charter School.
Lance is a father to one son, now twenty eight years of age. He is step-dad to two others, ages thirty and eighteen. Lance feels, the most satisfying professional moments come from discovering, within his students, talents and abilities that he may help nurture and develop.
Additional Notes:
Lance is the Director of Campus House, located next to the library on the Humboldt State University campus. Campus House offers interaction and academic support for independent study high school students. Campus House staff includes two fully credentialed high school teachers, a fully credentialed Special Ed teacher as well as some HSU post graduate students. Instruction is delivered through a combination of; individual tutoring, small group instruction, concurrent enrollment at HSU and C/R, independent study contracts and elective course offerings from numerous educational contractors throughout our area. Each student's overall program represents their own unique combination of the above.
Many graduates of Campus House go to four year colleges directly from our program, some with scholarships. Because of concurrent enrollment opportunities, some Campus House students graduate our program with a considerable amount of college credits. Most of the time those credits will transfer to other colleges and universities, thereby enabling some students to begin their post high school education with some college course work already completed.
Students that are not high academic achievers thrive here as well. We are able to employ great flexibility in order to find the best combination of educational opportunities for each individual under our direction. Campus House students and their parents are empowered with some control over how we spend funding for each individual student. We use many outside contractors like; Fusuikan Martial Arts, The Fire Arts Studio, Redwood Ballet, and Humboldt Music Academy to name just a few.
Highly skilled teachers from the university hold classes at Campus House. Currently, Suza Lambert Bowser teaches classes in English, social studies. She holds a masters degree in theatre from Tufts University. She holds a California Teaching Credential. She has taught all levels of high school English. She has lectured, part time, at HSU in the English Department. Last year, she played Gertrude (the queen) in the production of Hamlet at the North Coast Reparatory Theater.
Students, for whom earning income is a priority, have the advantage of our flexible independent study schedule. This allows them the ability to work and receive work study credits during hours that are traditionally set aside for attendance at site base schools.
Some students come here on a daily basis. Others take their lessons at home. The "Home Schoolers" may take advantage of tutors that actually go to the homes of our students. They may also take internet correspondence courses, paid for out of the students' academic budgets.
